This morning I watched Moxie on Netflix while I re-twisted my hair. It’s directed by Amy Poehler, who is also in the movie. I don’t really know much about Amy Poehler except for the fact that she was in Mean Girls. But for some reason going into this movie knowing that Amy Poehler directed it told me everything I needed to know about the movie. Also, that line in the trailer where she says, “When I was your age, all I cared about was smashing the patriarchy.” That told me everything too.
Here are some questions I had while watching the movie:
Am I getting old?
Are high schoolers this vocal about social issues now?
Are high school teachers still making kids read The Great Gatsby?
Do high schoolers really make up superlatives like “Best Ass” and “Most Bangable” and send out the list in a mass text to the whole school? How do you have the phone numbers of every single person in the school?
Am I getting old? (Why did I write this twice?? I’m literally 24…)
What are the cultural implications of the hold that Hawaiian shirts have on young men in our society? (Please answer this.)
How old is Nico Hiraga? (I looked. He’s 23.)
Do kids really throw parties at their houses when their parents are out of town? Also, do parents really go out of town and just leave their 16-year-olds at home? (Was I just not cool enough to be invited to these parties in high school?)
Are girls really not allowed to wear tank tops at school?
Why am I crying?
If you have answers to any of these questions please leave a comment.
Thank you. <3
big same @ looking up nico hiraga’s age. also worth noting that the writer of moxie is a writer for the first “after” movie. so there’s that.
I didn't want your list of questions to end.
But, also... I want to know YOUR answers to them. Do I need to watch the movie now?
